Travel restrictions linked to the Ebola outbreak will remain in effect in Canada for another month. The federal government has extended the temporary measures until September 28, 2026, after they were originally set to expire on August 29.
The rules affect foreign nationals who have been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during the previous 21 days. Certain immigration documents issued to residents of the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan also remain suspended under the measures.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not barred from returning to the country. However, travellers arriving from affected regions may be subject to health assessments and additional public-health measures, including quarantine or medical isolation for up to 21 days, depending on their circumstances. The extension reflects Canada’s continued precautionary approach while monitoring the Ebola situation.
