The international student enrollments in New Zealand have reported a strong growth in the year 2025. As per the Education New Zealand (ENZ) data, the total foreign enrolments have reached 92,580 in 2025, compared to 83,425 in 2024 (which is an increase of 11% from 2024).

The majority of student enrolments were in the universities, recording a 14% rise in international enrolments. The schools also had an increase of 10% compared to 2024. The largest sending markets were from China (34% of the 2025 enrollment) and India (14% of the 2025 enrollment). Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Germany, the US, Nepal, and the Philippines were other top countries from where students came to New Zealand for international education.

The Global Brand Health and Awareness Survey found that 22% of prospective international students now rank New Zealand among their top three study destinations. The supportive policies of visas and the post-study opportunities are leading to the preference for New Zealand as a study destination for international students.

The recognition of New Zealand as a study destination remains strong at 79% in key markets, placing it alongside major European and Asian education hubs.
