Ontario Boosts Points for Higher Earners Under New PR Pathway

Ontario has increased the points available to higher-earning candidates under the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS), a pathway to Canadian permanent residence. Effective October 5, 2026, candidates earning $80,000 or more annually can now receive 10 points, up from the previous maximum of 8 points for earnings of $70,000 or more.

The earnings are assessed using a Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment from the past five years. Candidates earning $70,000–$79,999 receive 8 points, while lower income brackets receive between 0 and 6 points.

The change strengthens the position of higher-income workers when Ontario ranks candidates for provincial nomination. The OWPS is currently Ontario’s available provincial pathway, while additional healthcare, entrepreneur and exceptional talent streams are planned.
