Canada has released updated Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) processing times. As per the update from the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) the processing times for most categories have increased in July 2026.
The High-Wage Stream saw processing times rise to 88 days while the Low-Wage Stream increased to 73 days. Processing times under the Global Talent Stream also increased up to 10 days and the Agricultural Stream to 23 days.
However, the processing times of not all categories experienced delays. The Permanent Resident Stream improved from 99 days to 86 days, while the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program decreased to eight days.
Employers planning to hire temporary foreign workers should also remember that LMIA processing times do not include the required recruitment and advertising period before an application can be submitted.
