Canada has released new details on the conditions under which foreign academic professionals can carry out certain evaluation duties without a work permit. The updated federal immigration instructions were published on July 31 and it outline specific eligibility requirements for the exemption.
As per the new update, eligible individuals must be senior academics or industry professionals having an established reputation in their field. They must also receive an official invitation from the organization asking them to conduct the evaluation. The exemption applies to thesis examiners, research proposal evaluators, and program or university project evaluators.
The exempt activity must last less than six months, and the examiner cannot receive payment from a Canadian source for the work. Immigration officers may impose conditions and issue a visitor record. Applicants must also meet Canada’s regular visitor entry requirements, including a valid TRV or eTA when required.
