Registrations for Australia’s 2026–27 Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa ballot program are now open for eligible applicants from India, China and Vietnam. The program provides eligible young adults with an opportunity to live, work, and travel in Australia. The registration window is open until 25 June 2026, under a visa pre-application ballot system to manage the high demand for the visa.
The ballot system has been introduced to ensure the fair, streamlined, and transparent selection of applicants from countries where the number of applicants exceeds the annual visa allocation. Eligible applicants who want to register to their country’s ballot must create an ImmiAccount and pay a non-refundable ballot registration fee of AUD 25. Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age, hold a valid passport from India, China, or Vietnam, possess a verified email address, and provide details of a valid national identity document. They must also agree to the registration form’s declaration. Indian applicants are required to submit a valid Permanent Account Number (PAN) card. A visa is not guaranteed with a successful registration, but it provides applicants with the possibility of being randomly selected to lodge a formal visa application.
According to the Australian Department of Home Affairs, random selections of the applicants will begin on 2 July 2026 and will continue until 30 April 2027 or until available places are filled. Candidates who are selected will get a notification, and they will have 28 days to submit a formal visa application. For visa approval the selected candidates must also satisfy the health, character, and visa eligibility requirements.
The ballot system is intended to give eligible applicants from India, China, and Vietnam a fair pathway to access the Work and Holiday visa program while maintaining country-specific annual visa caps negotiated through bilateral agreements.
