Australia is gradually phasing out the paper Incoming Passenger Card and introducing the Australia Travel Declaration (ATD) digital system. The Australia Travel Declaration (ATD) will allow eligible travellers to submit customs and biosecurity information electronically before arriving in the country.
Under the digital process travellers will submit their arrival details electronically and receive a digital confirmation. The confirmation will include a QR code that can be presented during border processing when required. The transition is expected to expand gradually across major international airports and seaports.
International visitors such as students, tourists, and business travellers, will be able to complete their declarations digitally when they are eligible and present the QR confirmation when required.
This process will modernize border management and it will improve data accuracy and strengthen border security. The process is expected to provide travellers with a smoother travel experience and allow authorities to assess risks more efficiently before they enter the country.
