Canada Launches New Talent Strategy in Partnership with India—Scholarships and More for Indian Students

Canada and India have signed a new talent strategy, and under the new education measures, Canada has announced millions of dollars as scholarships for Indian students. The new measures are aimed at strengthening academic collaboration and promoting talent exchange between the two countries.
The University of Toronto will fund scholarships up to $25 million for more than 220 Indian students studying in Canada. Also, the university will provide 300 funded research positions for Indian students, supporting stronger research partnerships and increased student and faculty exchange opportunities.

As part of the education measures, 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) have been signed between the several universities in Canada and India. The MOUs will strengthen the academic ties and create new collaborative learning and innovation opportunities. It will promote student and faculty exchanges and increase the joint research initiatives. The MOUs signed outline a broad framework, and each agreement highlights the different areas of collaboration. The collaboration is now only at the beginning stage. The agreements reflect the growing education ties between Canada and India, indicating a move toward more structured and long-term collaboration between universities and research institutions in both countries.

Canada will also launch three new hybrid study locations in India, which includes the launch of an innovation campus as a partnership between Dalhousie University, the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati, and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Tirupati. Also, the University of Toronto Centre of Excellence and the McGill University Centre of Excellence will be set up to bring together Indian and Canadian researchers and students, with a focus on advancing artificial intelligence research and development.

Further, India and Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim of providing possibilities for collaboration and exchanges in the field of the performing arts, visual arts, music, books, entertainment technologies, and other creative industries among the Indian and Canadian institutions.
