Vancouver has once again secured its place among the world’s top 10 most livable cities, according to the 2026 Global Liveability Index released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The city is ranked ninth in the world with an overall score of 96. It is the only North American city to be among the prestigious top 10 list for the second consecutive year.
The annual EIU assesses 173 cities across five key categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Vancouver has a perfect score in education (100/100). The city also has performed strongly in culture and environment (97); infrastructure (93); and healthcare (96) contributing to its global ranking. The city has improved its overall score from the previous year, 95.8 in 2025, to 96 in 2026.
In the 2026 ranking, Copenhagen topped the list, followed by Vienna and Melbourne, while other cities in the top 10 included Sydney, Zurich, Geneva, Osaka, Adelaide, and Tokyo. Vancouver’s recognition reflects the country’s strengths in education, public infrastructure, and overall livability, making Vancouver a global benchmark for urban excellence.
