Updated Biometric Appointment Guidelines for Indians Applying to Canada (2026)

There have been important updates regarding the biometric appointment guidelines for Indian applicants applying for Canada visas.
Biometrics, fingerprints, and photographs remain an important requirement for most visa applications for the verification of the identity of the applicant. Now scheduling a biometric appointment has become more structured, with applicants now required to use the new Appointment Management System (AMS) site of VFS Global to book an appointment. They must also upload the Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) through the site, upon which they will get an appointment.

An applicant will receive a BIL, which is issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) after the applicant has submitted a visa application and has paid the required fees for biometrics. The letter has to be uploaded as such without altering it in the AMS site.

The new updated platform gives the applicants better control and convenience while scheduling an appointment. They can select a preferred date and time, reschedule the appointment, and even cancel the booking. Also, they can directly upload the BIL (Biometric Instruction Letter) through the site.

All the other steps in the visa application process remain the same, including the process or website for scheduling a passport submission appointment. Most work, study, and temporary Canadian visas require biometrics, and missing or delaying an appointment can slow the whole visa processing. Further, it is important to verify the portal by checking the official VFS Global portal before booking an appointment.
