Labrador to Get New Canada Immigration Biometrics Centre

Labrador residents will soon have easier access to an important step in Canada’s immigration process. The federal government plans to launch a new biometrics collection facility in Happy Valley-Goose Bay in January 2027.

The centre will allow eligible immigration applicants to submit their fingerprints and photographs within Labrador, eliminating the need for many people to travel to St. John’s, Newfoundland. Currently, the trip from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to St. John’s can cover around 900 kilometres by air or approximately 1,600 kilometres by road and ferry.

Immigration Minister Lena Diab announced the initiative on September 29, 2026. Biometrics are required for various temporary and permanent residence applications, as well as some permanent resident card renewals.
