British Columbia held the first invitation round under its newly introduced Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative. 60 candidates employed as cleaning and security staff by participating B.C. health authorities to apply for provincial nomination through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) were invited through the draw. The candidates were required to have a minimum score of 50 to receive an invitation.
The Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative is a time-limited immigration initiative by the province. It is to address labour shortages in healthcare facilities across rural and remote communities in British Columbia. The initiative is to provide opportunities to healthcare support workers, particularly those in cleaning and security occupations, who have traditionally had limited access to permanent residence opportunities despite providing essential services.
British Columbia plans to nominate up to 250 eligible workers through this one-time initiative. Registration for the program opened on June 15, 2026 and it will close on August 31, 2026. Applicants who receive a provincial nomination can subsequently apply for Canadian permanent residence through the federal government.
