How does a Study Permit benefit you?

It costs CAD 150, and you definitely need it if your course is six months or longer. If you're just taking a short course for under six months, you don't need to worry about this one.

The permit document itself is quite detailed: it explains why you're in Canada, outlines any restrictions you have (like working), and confirms the educational program you're enrolled in.

After finishing your study program, the permit gives you a 90-day validity period. If you want to stay and work in Canada after graduating, you'll need to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) during that time.
