Canada Immigration: Common Mistakes and Remedies

Here are a few common mistakes that you need to avoid while applying for Canada immigration:

NOC Code

In the Express Entry profile, you should never indicate your primary NOC code, an occupation in which you have less than one year of continuous full-full work experience as it would lead to automatic rejection. The application would be rejected if the code does not fall under skill level O, A or B also. You should also make sure that indicating a particular occupation as your primary NOC code would not affect your employment prospects in Canada. Once you become a Canadian permanent resident, you may choose a job and an industry as you please.

Failure to prove your intention to settle outside of Quebec

If you are living or working in Quebec at the time of applying, you must prove to the immigration authorities that you would be residing outside Quebec once you obtain the permanent residence status. If you wish to continue to live in Quebec, you must apply for a Quebec immigration program.

Delay in submitting application

If you are planning to apply for Canada immigration, it would be ideal to do it at the earliest. Changes are introduced to Provincial Nominee Programs often, and the immigration categories under these open and close quickly. You will be missing a lot of immigration opportunities if you do not have an Express Entry profile.

Improper Reference Letters

Make sure that the reference letters you submit have the following information:

  • Official job title
  • Dates of employment
  • Salary
  • Average working hours per week
  • A list of employment duties

If your reference letter does not have this information, you may submit additional documents as proof. For example, you may provide payslips to prove your salary.

Misrepresentation: Fraudulent/Innocent

Misrepresentation may lead to your application being refused, and you may be barred for years applying for Canada immigration again for several years. Make sure that the information you provide about your career history, as well as medical and criminality issues, are accurate to your best knowledge.

If you are not sure about what to mention and whatnot, you may consult an immigration attorney.
