Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada starts Recruitment Office for nurses in India

In a new initiative to promote the movement of immigrant nurses to Newfoundland and Labrador, the provincial government has decided to open a recruitment office in Bangaluru, Karnataka, India. According to the latest update, the “recruitment desk” is to be managed and operated by government officials. The representative from the College of Registered Nurses in the province will be involved in creating awareness and getting in touch with trained nurses, nursing institutions, and nursing students. The focus is to persuade nurses and convince them that the province is the best destination for immigrants. Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, has numerous nursing institutions and a syllabus closely related to that followed in Newfoundland and Labrador. Besides, English is the medium of teaching in the nursing institutions of Bengaluru city.

As per the reports, the recruitment plan in Bangaluru is like the province’s satellite office started in Poland to bring Ukrainian refugees. The office in Poland has successfully moved over 160 Ukrainians to St. Johns, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador.

According to the news, concern exists about recruiting skilled workers from India, a developing country. It has been pointed out that since the immigrants send the money earned to their home country, they, in turn, contribute to the country’s economy. To make it mutually beneficial, the government plans to help India establish nursing schools to train students who can work in the province or India upon graduation.

The reports state that the recruitment process will be easy, but the problem is making the nurses remain in the province. Hence, adequate measures and homework are necessary for the plan to work for the immigrants, their families, and the province.

The Newfoundland and Labrador province has fewer immigrants, and the immigrant growth rate compared to other provinces is low. Since there are fewer immigrants, the newcomers find it difficult to adjust. Also, while nurse vacancies are available, finding jobs for the family members accompanying them takes time and effort. Hence, actions to support the nurses and their families who arrive in the province are underway.
