How To Increase your CRS Score for Canada PR

Express Entry is a system by which the Government of Canada handles permanent residence applications. After the applicant’s profile is created in the Express Entry, the profile is evaluated through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Profiles are ranked based on the CRS scores. Top-ranking profiles chosen in the draw conducted by the government receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Increase your CRS Score for Canada PR

There are different ways to increase your CRS score for obtaining permanent residency in Canada. Below are the means which will help you improve your CRS score.

Provincial Nomination Program (PNP)

Through Provincial Nomination Program, provinces can nominate candidates for immigration to overcome labour shortages. Applicants receiving the provincial nomination get 600 points added to their CRS score. A permanent Residence invite is nearly confirmed for those who receive a nomination.

Work Experience

Work experience helps in increasing the CRS score. Applicants with additional work experience are likely to get extra points in their CRS score. The CRS score can also increase if the work experience is documented clearly and distinctly. The points you are awarded can differ as per the type of job you are offered.

Job Offer

It is not mandatory to have a job offer for immigration through Express Entry. However, a job offer can increase the applicant’s CRS score required for obtaining a permanent residency in Canada. An applicant with a job offer can receive points from 50 to 200.

Educational Qualification

Educational qualification is one of the factors considered for the CRS score. Applicants can get points between 200-250 according to the place of study, i.e., whether they studied outside Canada or inside Canada. Applicants can improve their score by having an additional degree or getting other Educational Credential Assessments (ECAs) for existing degrees.

Principal Applicant

Before deciding on the principal applicant, it is best to consider which applicant can get a higher CRS score. For instance, choosing your spouse as the principal applicant is recommended when your spouse can get a higher score than you.

Language Proficiency

To be eligible for Express Entry, applicants must prove their ability in any of the two official languages. Language ability in listening, speaking, reading, and writing are evaluated, and an applicant can get around 128-136 points for language proficiency. Applicants can improve their CRS score by securing results above the minimum requirement.

Language is also considered with several other sections of CRS, such as human capital factors, skill-transferability, spousal factors (if one is married or in a common-law partnership), and additional factors.
